Photo of Arkansas Valley Interurban 12
Arkansas Valley Interurban 12

The only surviving car from the Arkansas Valley Interurban in Kansas is this steel car, number 12, built by American Car Company in 1917. Constructed as a combine, it was rebuilt into a box motor in 1938; two years later it was de-motored and spent the last two years of its service life as a freight trailer until it was retired in 1942. The body is preserved at the Great Plains Transportation Museum in Wichita. Photo by Jim Vaitkunas, posted with permission.
